Law changing 4 enterprises into govt firms approved

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Meshrno Jirgainfo-icon or upper house of parliament on Sunday approved a draft law changing the legal status of four public enterprises into government companies.

The draft covering Baghlan Sugar enterprise, Helmand Construction enterprise, Spin Ghar enterprise and security enterprise has been prepared by the Cabinet ministers in 2014.

The Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon or lower house approved the bill a month ago and on Sunday it was tabled in a general session of the Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon

Anarkali Hunaryar, who heads the Senate economics, finance and budgetary commission,  said the enterprises had been active under the Finance Ministry, but after chanting their status to government firms, the private sector could also purchase shares of the companies.

After changing the enterprises into firms, different financial institutions would be ready to invest in the sector due to good investment environmentinfo-icon for them, she added.

The Meshrano Jirga approved the draft with a majority vote.
