QALA-I-NAW (Pajhwok): A vehicle carrying an unknown number of passengers plunged into a deep ravine in northwestern Badghis province, officials said Saturday, fearing all those inside the land-cruiser might be dead.

The vehicle fell around 2,000 metres down from Sabzak Pass in a valley along the Qala-i-Naw-Herat highway.

The highway protection commander, Col. Mohammad Qasem, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place late on Friday.

The vehicle was heading from Badghis t to Herat province and the exact number of those onboard was not yet known.

Qasem said searching for the remaining bodies continued despite threat from militants and wild animals in the area.
