KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): At least 10 militants have been killed and 13 others wounded during a clash with security forces in southern Kandahar province, officials said on Wednesday.

The clash erupted late on Tuesday night in the Mianshin district, with both the sides suffering casualties, the governor’s spokesperson, Samim Khpalwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the clash broke out after militants stormed security forces posts. He said 10 militants were killed and 13 others wounded in the clash and one police and two army soldiers were injured.

Meanwhile, the Talibaninfo-icon claimed capturing a military base in Mianshin district and inflicting heavy losses on police.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yusuf Ahmadi said the fighters captured Sarnavi military base, seizing light and heavy weapons. He added 10 soldiers were killed and detained with their weapons.

Mianshin is 70km north of Kandahar city, the provincial capital. Militants attacked the district several weeks after they stormed the neighboring Nesh district, reaching the district center.

In that clashes, 18 security forces were killed and above 40 were wounded.
