MoRRD projects in Paktika to create 100,000 jobs

SHARAN (Pajhwok): As many as 100,000 residents of southeastern Paktika province will be provided with jobs through water supply, rural roads and regional integration projects.

The projects in different parts of the province near the Pakistaninfo-icon border were funded by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD), an official said on Saturday.

Eng. Momin, head of rural rehabilitation and development for Paktika, told Pajhwok Afghan News during an exclusive interview several projects would be implemented in Sharan, the provincial capital, and districts this year.

He said over $6 million would be invested in water supply, road regional integration schemes in the province. In this way, some 100,000 people will be provided with work opportunities.

The Social Integration Programme would be implemented in the province, but funds were yet to be allocated for the initiative, the official said.

He added two power generation projects worth $2 million would be implemented Shran and Orgun district. Upon completion of the projects, nearby villages would be electrified.

Mukhlis, gailing from Sarobi district, said the rural rehabilitation and development department was the only institution that provided services and jobs to the people.

He, however, urged the MoRRD to disintegrate 10 years old councils and create new ones at the local level to make sure speedy and effective uplift work.

Rahmat Gul, a resident of Wazikhwa district, urged the ministry to expand its development programmes to areas where no uplift projects had been executed.

He lamented Wazi Khwa, Warma, Tarwi, Khoshamand, Nakah, Zerok, Omana and Gomal districts had been deprived of development and no project had been implemented there.

Eng. Momin, however, said they had held talks with elders of all districts and hoped development projects would be carried out in all part of the province,
