Aug 09, 2017 - 16:13

ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Hundreds of womeninfo-icon in southwestern Nimroz province have received training and equipment for home gardens, an official said on Wednesday.

Mohammad Akbar Sharifi, agricultureinfo-icon and irrigation director, said around 500 poor and widowed women completed six days training on setting up home gardens.

The graduates, who also received certificates from the agriculture department, hailed from Chakhansor, Gank, Khashrod and Zaranj, the provincial capital.

They were also trained on growing okra, egg plant, tomato and pumpkin and provided with irrigation equipment, water sprays and pipes.

Sheema Mohammadi, an official at the agriculture department, commended the project as beneficial for poor women. She hoped the project would help women find sources of income, contribute to their economy and halt violence.

Governor Mohammad Sami termed the programme effective for the economic development of poor women and said the initiative reflected the will of the government to work for the development of the province.

Zahra, one of the participants of the course, said the training was effective because most of the women were illiterate and training was necessary for them to get awareness about home gardens.
