Conflict in north has morphed into tribal war: Hekmatyar

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon (HIA) chief says the conflict in northern parts of the country has morphed into tribal warfare.

Gulbadin Hekmatyar expressed the view during a meeting with tribal elders and youth from Balkh province. The delegation called on him in Kabul.

According to a statement from the HIA office on Sunday, security and stability in the country, specially the situation in Balkh province, was discussed at the meeting.

The HIA chief noted the conflict in the north had become a tribal war and a small group held  the common people hostage.

Hekmatyar said individuals behaving arrogantly should review their policies and stop following the wrong path. He, however, did not name any group or individual.   

He added the enemy wanted to create chaos and force Afghans to fight one another. The ongoing war had been thrust on the Afghans and some individuals, who did not want peace, had been hired for the purpose.

The ex-prime minister a handful of individuals those wanted war in Afghanistan. Most of the nation desired peace and supported HIA polices in this regards, he claimed.

“For durable peace and stability in the country, we have met every stakeholder, urged them to forget the past and make a firm commitment to the security and stability of the country,” he continued.

The HIA leader said they had no intension to take revenge and had extended the hand of brotherhood to all. He demanded an intra-Afghan dialogue for dispute resolution.

Hekmatyar asked political parties and influential individuals to stop creating alliances against one another, help pave the way for the upcoming parliamentary elections and accept the result.
