KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Six civilians were killed in a roadside bombing in Daman district of southern Kandahar province on Monday, the governor’s spokesman said.

The explosion occurred in Haji village of the district at around 4pm, Fazal Bari Baryalai told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the hidden bomb tore through a civilian truck loaded with flour on its way to Kandahar city, the provincial capital.

All six individuals onboard the truck were killed in the blast, he said, accusing militants of emplacing the improvised explosive device.

Kandahar police spokesman Zia Durrani confirmed the incident and police had reached the area and had launched an investigation.

The roadside bombing takes place in Kandahar after a lull in violence. Officials say police defuse dozens of landmines planted in public areas on a daily basis in Kandahar.
