Dozens of militants eliminated in Farayb offensive
MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Local official on Saturday claimed that at least 130 Taliban insurgents have been killed and 90 others wounded during the air-and-ground operations in northwestern Faryab province.
Gen. Amanullah Mobeen, commander for 209th Shaheen Military Corps, who led the clearing operation, said operation codenamed Naveed-6 was launched last Thursday and concluded on Friday.
He said 130 militants, including Dr. Abdul Rahman were killed and 90 others wounded including key figures, Mulavi Zarif shadow governor and Mulavi Abdul Samad deputy governor.
He said the clearing operation helped reopen the Ghormach-Qaisar highway, and rescued security forces besieged by militants in Chinese-known camp, and 3rd ANA battalion in one kilometer from Ghormach centre.
The high-rank military official added that about 30 motorcycles were destroyed during the offensive. He did not give information about the security forces causalities. Taliban have not yet commented about the offensive.
