Telecom services suspended in Farah on Taliban orders

Oct 12, 2017 - 14:59

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Talibaninfo-icon militants have ordered telecom companies to suspend their services in the capital and three districts of western Farah province for an indefinite period of time.

Private telecom companies including AWCC, Roshan, Etisalat and MTN are operating in Farha while the state-run Salaam telecom is active in the capital of the province.

Except Salaam telecom, all other private companies have suspended their services in the capital and three districts of Farah following Taliban's orders.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said they had banned telecom services because the government was conducting operations based on information it obtained over the telephone.

He added the telephone services would remain suspended for an indefinite time until threats from the government decreased.

Naser Mehri, the Farah governor’s spokesman, confirmed the orders from Taliban to suspend telephone services in the Farah City and other areas.

He said the provincial communication and information technology department was trying to resolve the problem. Mehri did not provide more details about the issue.

The telecom companies have not yet commented on the issue.
